Re: Micro four thirds

It's not new (as in just released), but I have a Panasonic GF-1. The only native lens I have for this is the 20mm f1.7. It's a very good compact system, certainly better than any of the compacts I've used in the past. Regarding manual focussing with older lenses used with an adaptor. I've tried that...

That's exactly why I think those locations would suit it best. The contrast would work in the photograph's favour IMHO.

Re: End of it's life?

Rather like Thomas I have an M6 that I could never imagine selling. We've been to too many places and taken too many photographs for that. As for film, I suspect it'll be around for a long time. I feel the writing is probably on the wall for slide and print colour film, but I think black and white w...

Re: Starting Out

You have all you need. Get to know what you already have before thinking about buying anything else.

After saying that, if the lenses came without lens hoods, consider buying the approriate hoods.

Re: Hanna 18th JUne 2010

Hi John, the only thing I would say is that it looks rather grey and lacking in contrast - look at the teeth for example. If this were my shot I'd run it through a curves adjustment.

Re: 360 degree panarama

I would guess either two cameras back to back with fish eye lenses fired at the same time - there's software available to stich those together to give a 'hemisphere' view, or alternatively several cameras with wide angle lenses, arranged in a tight circle, and also set to fire at the same time. Give...

Re: New Canon Lens

For indoor low light use the humble 50mm f1.4 lens takes some beating. Or the f1.8 if the budget won't allow the f1.4 version.
The f1.8 is amazing value for money - even it if it feels like a piece of plastic tat that could fall apart at any moment. I'd recommend it to every Canon user.

Re: Dumbing Down

There's a 16mm - 24mm equivalent - pancake lens on the way which I would expect to lower the profile somewhat.

The dumbest feature I've heard of recently is a face recognition preset that has settings for cats and dogs.

John, it seems it has an IPS panel which will explain the good colour when the angle of view changes.

Re: Why image resolution at 96 px/inch?

The DPI for wallpaper is irrelevant. The wallpaper doesn't know if it's being used on say a 17 or 24" monitor - and at a given screen resolution in pixels the 17" monitor will have a greater dpi than that of the 24" monitor. The only factor that should be important is the dimensions i...
